Re: Wealthsimple Joint Cash Account
Is there a good summary somewhere of what investments I *can* touch in Canada without involving deep IRS complications? Other than bank savings accounts, employer-sponsored RRSPs, and general personal investments like real estate, I'm not sure where to look

Wealthsimple Joint Cash Account
My (CA citizen, US NRA) wife wants to open a joint cash account with wealthsimple, but I (US citizen, CA PR) worry that this might be considered a passive investment account under US tax law. Does anyone know anything about this? What are the rules for having savings accounts, and what qualification...

I got some more info elsewhere...it will be taxed at the "stacked" rate, so basically at the top of my bracket before I can take FEIE off. My former employer was the one that managed the fund, and the reason ended up being a very poorly worded email I sent sometime last instructing them to...

Re: How to refer to my Canadian wife in my 2017 US taxes
Thanks! I guess it has been the electronic filing services that have confused me, because of the 5 I've tried, they've all had mandatory fields for my wife's TIN.
I'll give the old-school way a go.

How to refer to my Canadian wife in my 2017 US taxes
I married a Canadian and moved to Canada from the US in 2017 (I am a US citizen). I have no Canadian income that year, and a very simple US income situation. However, I have no idea how to even refer to my wife in my taxes, as she does not have a SSN or ITIN, and I don't think I should even need one...
