RRSP for non-Canadian moving from Canada to US

Post by mjcottawa »

Hello,

I have found the advice for persons moving to the U.S. after a work period in Canada to leave their RRSP intact:
http://www.serbinski.com/working-in-usa/rrsp.shtml

I would like to clarify whether this is valid for *anyone* who has worked in Canada, or only for Canadian citizens / permanent residents. I am a French citizen, who worked in Canada with a work permit and do not have Canadian PR.

Thank you!

It applies to anyone living in US or Canada.
But yo uwill most likely wish to sell your RRSP as soon as you establish US residency, since that will be when it is least taxed.
No point keeping this tie in Canada.
nelsona non grata. Non pro. Please Search previous posts, no situation is unique as you might think. Happy Browsing :D
