Defined Benefit Registered Pension Plan reporting

Post by igrek »

I am a US citizen living in Canada. In Canada, I have a Registered Pension Plan from work which is a Defined Benefit plan.

Question: Is any reporting needed for my Defined Benefit pension plan? (I do not meet the thresholds for form 8938). More specifically, should form 8833 or any separate statement be used to report the plan and defer taxation of the income within the plan? The income is indeterminable since it is a Defined Benefit plan.

I do not believe that any reporting is required.

If it were, the form would be 3520/3520-A.

Thank you, Nelsona. If I deduct the contributions made to RPP in line 7 of 1040 based on the treaty, should this be explained in a form 8833?

That would not be a bad idea.
