Interesting tax situation

Post by nabstar »

Hey guys,

So here is the situation.

US citizen - spent around 50% of the time in US and 50% in Canada.

Spouse is in Canada. Plan is to eventually return to Canada.

What happens here - are you supposed to file US resident return and Canadian resident return include worldwide income in both/FTC on both side ?

If you WERE a Cdn resident, you have not done enough to break that residence.
You are no doubt visiting your spouse rather than the other way around, so have not made your center of vital interest in US.

So you file full returns in both countries.
nelsona non grata. Non pro. Please Search previous posts, no situation is unique as you might think. Happy Browsing :D
