ETFs on US exchanges that run afoul of PFIC rules

Post by JohnSt »

Regarding what US expats can safely invest in, the article here: http://profile.rbcwealthmanagement.com/ ... page_53811 says the following:
"Alternatively, if you want mutual fund type investments, you can invest in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) trading on the NYSE as they are generally not considered PFICs (although you should check to ensure that the ETF is set up as a U.S. domestic entity)."

Does anyone know of what kinds of ETFs or companies that list ETFs on US exchanges that are not domestic entities? Just one more thing for the expat to worry about: unknowingly buying the wrong ETF on a US exchange.
