Canada Savings Bonds inside RRSPs

Post by taxeve »

Can anyone out there address these questions about Canada Savings Bonds inside RRSPs?
- Are RRSPs purchased through Canada Savings Bonds reportable on IRS form 8938 (assuming aggregate threshold is met for all assets) ?
- If so, are they reportable in Part VI of form 8938?
- What is the name of the 'Issuer' in Part VI, 8a? Is it Gov't of Canada? Is it CSB? Is it the bank where I purchased the CSB RRSPs,or something else?
- If 'Issuer' is Gov't. of Canada or CSB, what gets checked off in 8b ? Those are obviously not corporations.
Thanks.

Your RRSPs -- ALL RRSPs -- are foreign trusts held at a financlal istitution. Each RRSP is thus reported as one entity in Part VI.
The RRSP trustee is the issuer.
