FBAR filing in the year of departure from US

Post by MWW »

I worked in US on H1 visa for 3 years and have returned to Canada in September 2014. I will be filing 1040NR with 1040 as dual resident statement for the year.

I have been doing FBAR filing during my years in USA, reporting the bank accounts in Canada, just ordinary accounts, no RRSP, no TFSA, no investments.

I am wondering if I still have to do the FRAR for 2014 when I have already become a non-resident in mid Sept, 2014.

If yes, does the FBAR cover the whole of 2014 or just up to the date of my departure?

Do I have to filing other forms (e.g. 8938 etc) when I file the 1040NR since I have transferred my investments of about $100k to Canada after leaving USA?

I am in similar situation. Were you able to determine for which period to file the FBAR?
