Standard deduction allowed?

Post by Scarpa »

My wife and I live in the UK. I am not a US citizen and she is. She has lived here in the UK for 15 years. She files a US tax return 1040. Can she take the standard deduction? She files every year as married filing separately. She reports her wages on that form and takes the deduction for it on form 2555. She gets dividends and they are taxed. That is all she has. Thank you

She is allowed the standard deduction for filing separately, about $6000.
