I am preparing my US and Canadian taxes for 2011. I moved from Canada to US on May 14, 2011 and have been living in US since then. I became green card holder on April 9, 2012.
I:
(1) Lived in Canada Jan 1, 2011 through May 14, 2011;
-Earned income from US client; no taxes were deducted. Just received a check that I deposited.
-I stil have bank accounts in Canada and a corporation in Canada.
(2) Lived in US from May 14, 2011 through Dec 31, 2011;
-Earned income from US client; federal/state and other taxes were deducted.
(3) Own corporation in Canada in 2011 that made profit very small profit.
-No salaries, dividends etc were paid
For US tax purpose:
- do I file as resident or non-resident?
For Canadian tax purpose:
- do I file as resident ot non-resident?

For canada you file as a departing resident, an emigrant.
ForUS, you file as full-year resident, reporting all income, and exclduing your pre-arrival contractor income using 2555.
