How to do Taxes? Canadian Citizen but work in USA

Post by C356 »

I am a Canadian Citizen who lives in Canada and will be commuting every day to the USA for full time work - I will be employed by an American company.

I'm confused on how I should file taxes? Which tax return forms will I need to complete? Do I need to file it in the USA & Canada?

For canada, your tax return will be the same as before, reporting all income.

For US, you will likley prepare a 1040NR and report only the US wages on that return, and a state tax return.

The tax you calculate on those returns (as well as FICA) will be used on your Cdn return as a foreign tax credit against the Cdn tax on your US wages
