Any Canadian write-offs for US health insurance etc?

Post by rick_serban »

Hi,

I will be working 6 months in US on TN Status (Family all coming and are Canadian citizens maintaining residence in Canada).

Does the health related cost above 3% of income that one can write-off on ones Canadian income tax return also apply to health costs incurred while in the US ( I guess child care etc would be in the same boat)?

Thanks a lot,
Rick

Yes. US premiums, copays, etc are deductible like any other medical expense.

In general, there is no restriction on expenses being limited to physically being in canada.
nelsona non grata. Non pro. Please Search previous posts, no situation is unique as you might think. Happy Browsing :D
